Impression of the 2nd state (of 4) with the two dots in the upper right corner but before many shadows reworked, including hatching with the burin in the area between the right building and the right edge of the plate, and before the sky darkened (New Hollstein).

The 'two dots', discovered for the first time by Krzysztof Kruzel, were applied on twenty-nine copperplates shortly after Rembrandt’s death by an unknown owner. The impressions printed from the plates with the two dots, called « dotted impressions » by E. Hinterding, date from around 1680-1700.

Fine impression printed on laid paper. In very good condition. Thread margins all around the platemark (sheet: 213 x 165 mm).
