SOLD

Engraving by Pieter van der Heyden (c. 1530 - c. 1572) after a work by Hieronymus Bosch, 223 x 290 mm. Hollstein 25, 3rd state (of 4) with Claes Jansz II Visscher’s address.

Fine impression printed on laid paper with watermark (Foolscap with seven-pointed collar). Good margins (sheet: 292 x 346 mm). Numbers written in ink in the upper right corner of the sheet. Bottom, two tiny repaired tears; minimally soiled. Generally in good condition.

Hollstein connects this engraving with a drawing signed Bruegel (Vienna). The British Museum holds a drawing by Bosch which shows the same group of three persons at right and the man at the window in the same direction. In the drawing, the scepter is not laying on the floor but leaning against a wall.
