Chiaroscuro woodcut printed from three blocks in ochre, brown and dark brown, 150 x 100 mm. Bartsch, vol. 12, VIII, 4.

Very fine impression printed on laid paper with an indistinct watermark fragment. Very fine condition. Small margins (sheet: 165 x 115 mm).

Fortitudo is one of the seven cardinal and theological virtues in Christian faith. It is traditionally represented, as it is here, in the shape of a young woman with strong arms, breaking a stone column with her bare hands. Parmigianino's original sketch is lost.
